Acer Bloodgood :

Mr. Monster + Masters of Horror

Horror titles from campy to creepy with these new adaptations of existing stories. Check out Michael Gilbert’s Mr. Monster or indulge in IDW’s adaptation of the Masters of Horror.

Mr. Monster: His Books of Forbidden Knowledge

This 136-page mostly black and white volume reprints several obscure Mr. Monster stories from Dark Horse Presents, A-1, and Crack-a-Boom! as well as three new stories — including some work with Keith Giffen — and a trove of background material including introductions to every story, a Mr. Monster checklist, industry insider perspective pieces, unpublished Mr. Monster newspaper strips, and several pages of original pin-up art.

George Evans, artist of E.C.’s early-1950s Tales from the Crypt, writes the introduction, and Gilbert offers a professional biography and shares his perspective on comics industry implosion of the early 1990s.

Masters of Horror

Masters of Horror serves as a twelve issue companion series for the Showtime original series of B-grade horror flicks produced by IDT Entertainment and written and/or directed by such illustrious genre auteurs as John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, and Don Coscarelli.

The comics provide faithful, full-color, 22-page adaptations of selected Masters of Horror movies, including Coscarelli’s Incident On and Off Mountain Road, about a woman who utilizes survivalist training skills against a sadistic ogre and Stuart Gordon’s Dreams In the Witch House about a student living in a house infested with human-faced rats.

Acer Bloodgood is the pen name of a longtime ComicBase writer acquired from a family of maple trees. There is some worry that this sobriquet is “too goth-weenie.” For the record, Acer grew up in California’s suburban sprawl and now lives in San Francisco where he whiles the nights away in dingy dive bars. He drinks whisky with seltzer and lemon.
