ComicBase 9.0.4 UPDATE Released

The ComicBase 9.0.4 Update is now available as a free download from the ComicBase web site (or use Internet menu’s Check for Updates command from within ComicBase). The new update fixes a couple of assorted bugs, speeds up the ComicBase Statistics command, and adds better checking for future updates. See the update notes for the full list of changes.

Best of all, we’ve gotten rid of the need to run a separate program updater application—just download the update to your desktop, double-click to run it, and you’re good to go. (Do make sure to quit ComicBase before running the update, however).

We’ve opened up a special Holiday Clearance Store on the web site, allowing you to stock up on ComicBase Bonus disks, as well as Standard and Deluxe editions of last year’s ComicBase 8 at unbelievable prices. Savings range from 33%-60%. This sale also gives Mac users a chance to grab the last Mac OS version of ComicBase at the lowest price ever, while still preserving the option to upgrade to 9 at a later date.

All items listed in this sale are in stock, but supplies are limited. For details on the sale, visit http://www.comicbase.com/Clearance_Sale.asp

“Caps for Comic Software” Military Discounts

We’re sending this newsletter out the day after Thanksgiving (thus its abbreviated length, as we all recover from our turkey comas). We’ve got so much to be thankful for this year, starting with the continued support of all our great customers. We’re also thankful for gigabit ethernet switches, vanilla espressos from Starbucks, and that the first three Star Wars movies have finally made it to DVD.

We also want to send out our most heartfelt thanks to all our brave troops putting themselves on the line around the world. That’s why, effective immediately, and continuing until further notice, we’re instituting a new “Caps for Comic Software”program for all active duty military personnel.

Basically, the deal is this: send us a cap for our display case, ideally with your unit’s logo (boonie caps are fine, too), along with verification of your active duty status, and we’ll give you the ComicBase version of your choice at a fairly obscene discount.

For details, drop a line to Pete Bickford at (or give us a call 10-5 PDT, M-F at 408/266-6883) and we’ll fill you in.

And once again, thanks from all of us for all your hard and dangerous work.

Wanted: Your Comic Databases

We’re working on ways to make the version-to-version upgrade process of ComicBase even easier. To help us out, we’re hoping folks can send us copies of your databases so that we build up our ability to have ComicBase automatically handle the chores of title matching, issue transferring, and so on. You’ll also be helping us to fill in any missing issues and titles we may have somehow overlooked, so we can make sure they make it into future versions of ComicBase.

If you can lend us a hand, please burn a copy of your ComicBase Database file and send it, along with your name, phone number, and email address to:

ComicBase Database Testing
Human Computing
4509 Thistle Drive
San Jose, CA 95136-2014

Or, if your internet connection is reasonably fast, contact technical support at support@human-computing.com and we’ll set up a location for you to FTP the database to.

Thanks very much for your help (and we’ll try to find some concrete way to express our appreciation).
