April 12, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Future Versions of ComicBase to be Windows-Only Macintosh version 8.0.1 to be last for platform Human Computing, the makers of the industry-standard ComicBase program for managing comic book collections (www.comicbase.com), have announced that they will be focusing on Windows for all future versions of ComicBase. Technical support for the Macintosh version of ComicBase, currently v8.0.1, will continue to be offered, but no new major versions or content updates will be released for the Macintosh. “As longtime Macintosh supporters, this was a heartbreaking decision for us,” says ComicBase’s creator, Peter Bickford. “But it was becoming all too clear that the Macintosh version wasn’t going to remain viable unless we could somehow make it run natively under Mac OS X. Unfortunately, Apple has effectively mothballed the development environment that ComicBase was built in, preventing us from creating an OS X-native version of ComicBase without rewriting it completely in another language. Given the size and scope of ComicBase, that was a development effort we just couldn’t justify financially.” Current users of the Macintosh version of ComicBase can continue to use their current software as before, or can transfer their inventory to the Windows version, which is included on their ComicBase Program Disks. Step-by-step instructions for transferring collection data from the Macintosh to the Windows versions of ComicBase can be found on the Human Computing web site at: http://www.comicbase.com//Support/Technotes/Transfer.asp “The good news is that this really frees us up to do great things with ComicBase that we could never accomplish with the aging development environment we were working with on the Macintosh. Folks using, or making the transition to the Windows version are going to be very pleased with what they can do.” -30- MARKETING CONTACT Carolyn Bickford Marketing Director Human Computing Tel: 408/266-6883 Fax: 408-266-5869 email: cjbickford@human-computing.com ABOUT HUMAN COMPUTING San Jose, California-based Human Computing was established in 1991 and is privately held.
