Book Recommendations from Readers

Jay Hash writes:

If I may Pete, I highly recommend an author named Christopher Buckley. His humor is decidedly political, but at the same time very wry. He also well known for covering odd subject matter, For example:

Thank You for Smoking- A tobacco lobbyist at the top of his game is toppled by being abducted, forced to wear nicotine patches and a boss that wants to see him fail... (Yes it was made into a movie, but the book is infinitely better)
Little Green Men- A prominent journalist is "abducted" multiple times by  "aliens" (actually a government agency), mainly due to a  drunken government employee's accidental grudge, said journalist then proceeds to make UFo's and Aliens into a viable scientific and political field...
No Way to Treat a First Lady- A sexually promiscuous US president is found dead in his bed next to his wife, the first lady is on trial for murder, only to be defended by her ex-fiance she dumped in law school...
Florence of Arabia- A recently fired State Department employee is secretly funded by a secret organization to help emancipate women in the middle east by creating a liberating television station just for women, hilarity ensues...
Boomsday - A young political upstart blogs that people should be given government incentives to kill themselves before reaching the age of 75 to keep social security spending down. Think "A Modest Proposal" gone horribly wrong... (Not to say that "A Modest Proposal" wasn't horribly wrong to begin with)

Anyway, he's one of my more favorite humor writers. I think a fair amount of his books have been transliterated into audio books, but I'm sure if you pick up one of his books you'll be duly impressed as well as throughly amused.

Hope that helps on your quest for new authors.
