Defunct ComicBase FAQs ("Frequently Asked Questions") Last updated June 28, 2004 This list covers issues which used to generate a lot
of questions for us in previous versions of ComicBase, but which no longer
apply to the currently shipping version (usually because we fixed the
problem which led to the questions). See the Current
FAQ List for most recent list of questions which apply to the current
version of ComicBase. Backups General Troubleshooting -- Macintosh Why is ComicBase taking several minutes to long to load on my Macintosh? I only have values for 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001. Where is 1998? It was sacrificed in the name of progress. In 1997, we
were several months late shipping the release due to work in converting
ComicBase to Windows. We decided to shift our release schedule from the
last months of the year to earlier in the year as well. As a result,
we had no release in 1998. I'm using ComicBase 4 for Windows and my prices are all showing as zero. What's up? There was a production foul-up just prior to pressing some of the ComicBase 4 disks which resulted in showing the selling prices in the Windows version as zero. To fix this, use the Mass Change command under the Comics menu, andChange: [Price] To Field: [Year 4 [1999] Value]This will set the selling prices of all your issues to the current year's guide value (and we apologize for the mix-up!). This problem does not exist in current versions of ComicBase. I've restored from a backup on CD or CD-RW, but now it says my ComicBase Database can't be opened. What's up?? Most PC backup utilities mark files as "Read Only" if they're being backed up to a CD or CD-RW. Unfortunately, this prevents the database from being used when it's copied back from the CD. If you've restored from a CD and you're having trouble getting your database to open, right-click on the database file, choose Properties, then uncheck "Read Only". The next time you launch ComicBase, the database should open properly. ComicBase 6.0.3 (and later) handles this issue automatically.
General Troubleshooting -- Macintosh Why is ComicBase taking several minutes to long to load on my Macintosh? One of our users has discovered the culprit: Symantec Anti-Virus. When using its "Auto-Protect" setting, it attempts to scan the code of ComicBase for viruses each time ComicBase loads: a lengthy and unnecessary procedure. To prevent this, disable the Auto Protect feature in Symantec Anti-Virus, (or add ComicBase to its list of excluded applications, if it has one).
