ComicBase 8.0.3 Release Notes
Using this Update
This updater will search for old versions of ComicBase
that can be updated. If it finds a file that can be updated, just choose that
file from the list and click the Update File button.
If it is unable to find an old copy of ComicBase
8 to update, use the "Select File..." button to select the old ComicBase
8.exe file you want to update. By default, this file is installed in your
C:\Program Files\Human Computing\ComicBase 8 folder.
Note that this updater will only recognize
"official" versions of ComicBase 8--If you've installed any previous
beta versions, you'll need to delete your ComicBase 8.exe file and reinstall it
by running the ComicBase Setup program from the ComicBase CD and doing a
“Repair” install before updating (this
will not affect your data).
Changes from ComicBase 8.0
-
Solved a problem which gave an “error #0” when
updating from some older versions of ComicBase.
-
When you first go to a title in the Issues view,
you can automatically navigate to an issue in the list by quickly typing its
issue number. This is nice for quickly finding your way in long series like Action
Comics.
-
Issues which have a quantity in stock of 1 or
more now show in a pale green. (This was in response to a great idea suggested
by folks at the ComicBase User’s group meeting in San Diego—Thanks, folks!)
-
Brought back the condition drop-down which
appears when you edit issues from the Issues view.
-
You can now Mass Change quantity in stock
(another user request). As far as we can tell, it’s mostly useful for
completely clearing the quantities from your database, so please, use it with
care!
-
The Modify Issues window is now modeless.
-
Removes doubled entries under issues whose title
starts with “K”
-
The upgrade from previous versions only runs if
the database does not contain issues. This is to prevent folks from accidentally
running the upgrade twice and doubling up their issues.
-
You can now trigger the “Upgrade from previous
version” dialog manually by holding down the Alt key when starting up
ComicBase.
-
You can now temporarily skip saving a backup when
closing by holding down the Alt key when quitting. Your regular backup settings
will be preserved for the next time you run ComicBase.
-
If you have a Windows configuration error which
prevents the database from initializing, a more explicit error message is
given, and you are automatically taken to a Microsoft service pack on the web
which may help.
-
Fixed an error (0) which can occur when importing
certain files. Import is also now more interactive and responsive, handles the
creation of new titles more effectively, and skips blank lines when counting
the number of lines imported.
-
Manage Pictures can now install files even if
there are read-only copies of those same files already in the destination
location.
-
Fixed a problem marking and quick changing found
comics.
-
ComicBase repairs itself if another program overwrote its print
engine files with incompatible versions of the same files. This is the typical cause of a “Can’t Open
Database File” error in Alt_Title_Report_Data when
trying to print price list or other reports.
-
Improved handling of text pasted into the title
description window
-
Changed error handling to give more descriptive
messages.
