The Way of the Editor:
Kids Can Draw Comics, Too!Eat your heart out, Marvel!
Kids are awesome. Twice the imagination, three-times the creativity, and half the size of adults. They’re just compact, you know? Plus, they’re about as cute as ten of your favorite fuzzy animals all snuggling in a crate. And when I get down to it at the end of the day, there’s nothing quite as charming as getting in a title submission for a kids comic drawn by an actual kid.
Recently, long-time ComicBase user Carl Tietz sent in this entry using the new correction feature in ComicBase 10.0.7 for Mrs. Sherwood's 1st Grade Class Comics:
Irinman |
Dr. Donitefits Mr. Electric |
Revenge of Dr. Lizard |
A 2006 series totaling 17 issues in the series, complete with picture scans, cover date, creator credits, and special notes like: “Ironman?”
I don’t know about you, but that Dr. Donitefits Mr. Electric (Dr. Donut fights Mr. Electric?) looks like a promising read. Just judging by the covers ( limited coloring palette aside), I think these comics are easily better than a whole slew of “indie” comics being sold on the market today. (Don’t even get me started on that junk ‘art’ by Jim Mahfood…)
But if Mrs. Sherwood's 1st Grade Class Comics isn’s proof enough to convince you, try this on for size:
That’s right. Alexa Kitchen, aged 7, daughter of Dennis Kitchen (publisher of Kitchen Sink Press), bonifide comics artist with a real book under her name. A little dubious? Well, if a comic-world pedigree doesn’t impress you, judge her work for yourself by previewing some of Alexa’s comics at Alexa Kitchen’s website.
