The Way of the Editor:

Killing Us Softly With Her…

…VARIANTS. The dreaded bane of Human Computing.

The aptly-named and amply-endowed Lady Death has done it again. What is it? She’s wandered over the unspoken rule of ComicBase variant covers: dangerously straying into the little-explored “Q” cover territory.

Now, my lady isn’t the first, but I think I can safely say that she’s certainly the offender who’s savoring her victory most with this “Tasty” variant cover:

But if you really come down to it, Ultimate Spider-Man’s still the one who’s got her beat with the longest known list going down to the “R” variant of a Turkish edition of Ultimate Spider-Man issue #1, sent in by an enterprising ComicBase customer, no doubt. But with new covers pouring out of the woodwork almost as fast as the issues themselves are printed, or in the case of Avatar, planned campaigns for every new story, I’m sure number “1/R” will soon be a mere hiccup in the past compared to the vast amounts of duplicate comics with only the covers different that I’m sure we’re destined see.

Shiaw-Ling Lai is the Editor of ComicBase and a sworn enemy of most things indie. At the top of her current list of woes is the back indexing of Every Avatar Variant Known to Man, and then some. Feedback or corrections for her are wholeheartedly welcome and can be sent to her at slai@human-computing.com.
