Fumiyo Kouno writes and draws two connected semi-autobiographical stories about survivors of the Hiroshima bombing and their decedents. Jumping around chronologically, the story pieces together tales of three generations of survivors, showing their struggles through the years directly after the bombing as well decades later, when prejudice and mysterious illnesses plague them. Fumiyo Kouno creates a delicately balanced story of pain and survival, painting a portrait of a family facing the worse situations imaginable and yet maintaining hope.
Jennifer grew up in an almost-rural part of California and is currently living in the metropolis of Portland. She knows how to fish without bait, find magnetic north, shoot a bow and arrow, and slaughter small animals, but very rarely does any of it.
Jennifer’s favorite comics include PS 238, She-Hulk, Usagi Yojimbo, Fables, and Impulse.
