Mark Arnold:Real Heroes
Giant Robot Warriors + The Trenton Doyle Handbook
Genre: Science Fiction
Designed as political satire for the 21st century, this graphic novel owes a lot to early pioneers of the form such as Batman: The Dark Knight and small wonder, as Author Stuart Moore was a founding Editor of DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. The story is timely as the story’s President bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain Mr. Bush. There is a twist (in fact several) that won’t be revealed here, but the irony of the situation is satirized to its fullest extent.
Trenton Doyle Hancock came up with a unique idea: instead of creating a number of comic book series and stories and then creating another comic book with an A-Z index of all those characters and describing their traits like Marvel and DC have, why not just create your own version of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and populate it with your own original characters. This is what Trenton did. He even has them marching across the front and back covers just like Marvel.
