Top Cow’s crossover “Monster War” storyline draws to a conclusion after running the gamut of its favorite heroes. The Darkness, Witchblade, Tomb Raider, and the Magdalena join forces just in time to market for Halloween.
Witchblade vs. Frankenstein: Monster War 2005
Detective Sara Pezzini knew it was going to be a bad day when it began with a mass murder investigation. The appearance of mobster Jackie Estacado (The Darkness) merely reinforced her opinion. But the manifestation of her own mystical Witchblade, a quasi-sentient armor-like weapon, was the confirming “nail in the coffin”. And after a brutal encounter with the un-living monster Frankenstein, she realizes she’s involved in something a lot more sinister than feuding crime families.
Featuring appearances by Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, and a vampiric Magdalena, this is the third installment of a story begun in Magdalena vs. Dracula and Tomb Raider vs. The Wolf-Men. Detailing the fiendish efforts of the savage Mr. Hyde (now physically separate from his alter-ego Dr. Jekyll) to unleash a horde of horrific demons, a Monster War. This crossover storyline, and perhaps the world as we know it, concludes in The Darkness vs. Mr. Hyde.
Darkness vs. Mr. Hyde, The: Monster War 2005
When mob enforcer Jackie Estacado, wielder of the supernatural force The Darkness, investigates a brutal mass murder at his organization’s prestigious brothel, he expects to find evidence the hit was perpetrated by a rival “family.” Instead, he becomes embroiled in a desperate struggle against the savage Mr. Hyde (now existing separate from his alter-ego Dr. Jekyll), who has created a virus capable of transforming all of humanity into monstrous hybrids of himself and Dracula. Unfortunately, that’s only the beginning: Hyde’s ultimate goal is the release of ancient “Lovecraft-ian” forces that make Jackie’s demons look like Hollywood Gremlins after a late-night snack.
Alongside Witchblade, Tomb Raider, and the Magdalena, he wages an all-out battle against Hyde and his allies, concluding (for better or worse) the Monster War begun in Magdalena vs. Dracula, and continued in Tomb Raider vs. The Wolf-Men and Witchblade vs. Frankenstein.
